Compensation is often crucial for those involved in crashes. Without it, they could face financial difficulties due to the often high cost of medical bills, time off work, potential rehabilitation or therapy and repairs to their vehicle.

Having evidence to back up your claim that the crash was caused by another party increases the chance you get the money you need. Below are some types of information you should gather if conditions and injuries allow.

Insurance details

Exchanging insurance details is essential. Snapping a photo of the driver’s policy and license can accomplish this quickly and accurately. Do double-check the photo is clear, though.

Contact information

Sometimes the best view of a collision comes from someone outside of it. They may have felt like they were watching in slow motion, as the two vehicles continued on their path toward a collision. They can often give good information about who was in the wrong. You can again use your phone to note down their name and contact number. You might even voice record what they tell you, if they are happy for you to do so.

Photos and videos

You should aim to get a selection of photos or videos that cover all angles and details. They should include everything from an overview of the scene and traffic and weather conditions, to close-ups of injuries and vehicle damage. Video can sometimes help to show how the individual images fit together. The aim is to give investigators the best chance of determining why the crash happened.

Having legal guidance to take your gathered evidence and build a solid claim increases the chance you get the compensation you deserve.
