Summer can be fantastic on the Jersey shore, as witnessed by the number of visitors who descend on the area during summer. Yet this influx can add to the problems and dangers drivers face during these warmer months.
Here are some of those summer dangers to be wary of.
1. Alcohol
Many locals and visitors will be consuming more alcohol than they usually would during the summer. They’ll do so while sitting at a waterfront bar, having a BBQ at a friend’s or attending an event. Many of them will then drive their cars, and even if they only consume a small quantity of alcohol, it will affect their driving. Some will also consume far too much, yet still drive anyway.
2. Heat and traffic
Driving is not always fun during the summer. Tensions can build as the heat rises and traffic increases. This can lead to drivers doing dangerous or aggressive things that jeopardize themselves and others.
3. Distraction
You will likely see a lot of out-of-towners driving around distracted. They might be admiring the view, studying the satnav or looking at a set of printed instructions to find their hotel or wherever they are trying to get to.
Both visitors and locals can also be more prone to getting distracted by their passengers. They may be driving with the whole family, or a group of friends, who may be bored or excited, both of which could lead them to distract the driver inadvertently.
Anyone injured in a crash this summer should learn more about their rights to compensation.
